Why should I eat Organic?
In two words “Stay Healthy”
Organic production is defined as using “cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity.”
- Pure Food Tastes Better – Avoid chemicals like pesticides, fertilizers, growth hormones and GMO (genetically modified organisms) entering your body. Studies have linked pesticides to everything from headaches to cancer to birth defects.
- Higher nutritive value - Organic food being natural, whole and unrefined, retains more nutrients than conventionally produced food
- Promotes Biodiversity, enhances ecological balance and keep our earth in good health
- Sustainable in long term - Organic farming uses practices like crop rotation, composting, biological pest control, thereby improving soil structure
The following quote from Maria Rodale’s book, Organic Manifesto: How Organic Farming Can Heal Our Planet, Feed the World, and Keep Us Safe, is self-explanatory.
How can we trust if it is really organic?
Look for certification logo on the product - An organic label from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) guarantees that the produce is subject to strict requirements and yearly inspections. The certification is granted, when the farm is practising organics farming as per the standards set by USDA for atleast 3 years.
What if Ananda product says “organic” but doesn’t have the USDA organic label?
It means that products are sourced from small scale organic farms which are certified organic under the National program for organic production (NPOP) by Indian Government.
What if Ananda product does NOT say “organic” on the label?
All the imported items like berries, Carob, etc. are not labelled organic as the cost of certification is expensive. We purchase from reputed suppliers in small batches to provide fresh stock with highest quality.
Why does Organic Food cost more?
When you buy organic food you pay for the "cost of honesty", which is why organic food costs more than conventionally grown food
- Technical factors: Organic farming relies on proven traditional practices which are more labor & management intensive (no shortcuts) compared to conventional farming. For example, if the farmer is unable to treat some crop disease using natural methods then they choose not to harvest rather than use chemicals.
- Economic factors: Awareness is still very less about organic food and hence demand is less. It is not mass produced yet. It is still grown in pockets and is therefore logistically expensive to source. Organic farmers do not receive any subsidies like conventional farmers do. So farmers need that slight premium to motivate them to move to organic.
- Labour intensive
- Storage and Transportation
- Time and Cost of Certification
Instead of seeing organic food as an expense, view it as an investment in your health and a donation towards a safer, better, world for future generations.
How expensive are we talking?
While Organic in general can get expensive, but at Ananda Healing Food, we do extensive research and source specific products from specific companies from different parts of India to keep the prices low without compromising on the quality. On an average customers will pay about 25% more than produce with chemicals.
- Our organic seeds are sourced from Indian farmers rather than buying cheaper Chinese imported seeds.
- Our imported dried berries contain minimal amount of sugar as compared to other brands which can have sugar content upto 50%.
- We sell certified Organic Loose Teas (much cheaper than teabags) to keep the prices low.
- Our Cold Pressed juices are 100% fruit with No sugar, Water, preservatives as compared to other brands where 50-80% water is mixed with fruit pulp.
Organic in Non-Perishables, Does it matter?
Organic applies to non-perishables like Dal, Rice, honey, sugar, juices, etc. Not only in the way it is grown, but also in the way it is processed (without chemicals) & stored without any fumigants. For instance, most of the branded regular honey has got antibiotics in it. In Atta, they add fillers while grinding wheat. In Rice & Pulses, they spray fumigants while storing to prevent insects.
Insects might crop up in stored organic non-perishables like dal, rice etc. But nothing to worry, just sundry the product or store in refrigerator to avoid infestation. To preserve organic non-perishables for longer, one can place natural repellants like Neem Leaves, Dry Chillies. Non-organic products may not have insects in it, but remember, you are consuming a produce that is so harmful that even insects will not eat.

Who founded Ananda Healing Food ?
We, Nandan Maheshwari and Krsnangi dd moved to Mayapur in 2012. We met Sriman Lagudi das (ACBSP) from New Govardhan in Mayapur who cured his Cancer using Raw food diet. Initially, we started with finding herbs, berries, oils etc from his personal use and over time we have expanded Ananda Healing Food with over 108+ organic and natural products.
We work with the authentic organic companies who share the same vision as us – making organic food affordable. (Many organic food companies charge premium prices upto 50% higher based on brand value). At Ananda Healing food, instead of supplying organic products from just one brand we procure specific products from specific company, whichever is lowest in price without compromising on quality.
Nandan has a background in Mechanical Engineering with B.Tech and M.Tech from IIT Madras and he studied Robotics at ETH Zurich, Switzerland before moving to Mayapur dham. He is currently engaged in the Mayapur Master Plan office which is responsible for planning the future development of Mayapur Dham.
Krsnangi dd has a Masters in Pedagogy. She moved to India in 2006 and stayed in Mayapur and Vrindavan Dham to deepen her spiritual life. She has been engaged as a Priest, Preacher, Teacher, and Counselor over the years. She is a Bhakti Sastri Teacher and studying Bhakti Vedanta in Mayapur.
